Learning more about our training..

by | Jul 26, 2017

Katrina and I arrived at the stunning Woodbrooke Quaker Study centre, eager to learn more about the training and qualification that we will be delivering.

Both us feel very fortunate to be here; not only because of the stunning grounds and tranquil feel to the location and company of our training week- but also because just a year ago it would have felt almost impossible that Community Organising projects would be funded for anything beyond a year.

To have funding for three years; and for a programme that truly embraces the goal of making sure Community Organising is trickling out through the work of communities everywhere, is something that so many Community Organisers have worked hard for.

Some of you may know that a couple of years ago we delivered a Volunteer Training Programme in Devizes. It was well received and complimented by it’s participants, and it was important to us both that we reflect on the successes and challenges from that and embed the learning from this in the delivery of the upcoming training.

After four days of training in Birmingham we left Woodbrooke feeling well informed and excited about being able to get out there and start training people up.

It was especially exciting to know that we are not alone in this process. Around 10 other groups across the country will also be carrying out the training and it feels that a real team has been formed from the training. This ensures that all of us have a strong environment to learn from and support each other to create something that will be genuinely effective in educating communities in the message of Community Organising.
